Buy a .ca Canadian domain name

Buying a .ca domain name lets you demonstrate that you have roots in Canada. Since localness is a key factor for Canadian users, the .ca extension is an excellent way to build a relationship of trust.

About the .ca extension

The .ca extension was created in 1987 by John Demco, co-founder of the Webnames.ca domain name registry. Its purpose was to allow people from Quebec to buy a Canadian domain name.

The extension is for everyone, both French- and English-speakers alike. The government has always wanted to demonstrate its multiculturalism, even in its choice of domain names.

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) manages all .ca extensions. CIRA validates purchases of Canadian domain names by providing an authorisation code for each new application.

Up until 2010, CIRA also registered sub-domains for Canadian provinces and territories, such as .qc.ca for Quebec and .mc.ca for Manitoba. Today, however, only the .ca extension remains. This is available to all profiles (blogs, Canadian registered trademarks, companies, etc.), provided that there is a proven link between the owner and the country of Canada.

Why choose a .ca extension?

A .ca domain name shows Canadian Internet users how important you consider the values of this beautiful country. In addition, proximity plays a crucial role in building a relationship of trust with its inhabitants.

According to a 2020 study by The Strategic Counsel, more than 7 in 10 Canadians prefer to support a brand or company from their own country. Buying a Canadian domain name is therefore a definite competitive advantage for all brands and e-commerce sites that want to set up shop.

The .ca extension also makes it easier to have your site appear on search engines in Canada - in any language.

Trust, proximity and visibility are three excellent reasons to buy a Canadian domain name for your website!
