Trusted cloud infrastructure for 50+ companies

Executive summary

Flux is the world’s first truly decentralised cloud infrastructure, offering a unique platform for building decentralised applications (DApps) and Web3 innovations.

The Flux network runs on 15,000 computational nodes - making it one of the largest decentralised networks in the world - and its extensive ecosystem includes Flux Blockchain, Flux Tokens, a decentralised computational network (FluxNodes), a Linux-based operating system (FluxOS), a digital asset platform (Zelcore) and a decentralised cloud hard drive (Flux Cloud).

Flux's decentralised design offers major security and redundancy advantages when compared to traditional cloud providers. This has attracted the attention of like-minded companies, who have used Flux to build solutions such as Nostr, TeamSpeak, Minecraft, Valheim, Polkadot, Kadena, Streamr, Presearch and Dash. One of the most popular website builders, WordPress, is also available as a decentralised solution on Flux Cloud.

Sustainability is also important to Flux. The company has committed to the Crypto Climate Accord and is also pioneering several Proof of Useful Work (PoUW) solutions, which ensure that the energy consumed during crypto activities is used, rather than being wasted.

The challenge

To accommodate its growing ecosystem of solutions, Flux required a platform capable of hosting advanced blockchain technologies, whilst also protecting customer data and ensuring a strong, stable and resilient network connection.

Our team at Flux is not maximalist - we believe working with Web2 and Web3 will benefit users of both platforms. OVHcloud is trusted in the Web2 space and forward-thinking about how the new internet will be developed in tandem - much like how on-prem and the cloud developed. They are looking to support, help and grow a truly decentralised internet and partnering with Flux makes a world of sense.

The solution

Flux was searching for a provider that shared its vision of a sustainable and decentralised future. After researching various options, Flux decided to partner with OVHcloud, having been impressed by the latter’s powerful, secure and sustainable technologies. The two teams held several discussions around technical requirements and objectives, before Flux decided to adopt Advance Dedicated Servers and High-Grade Dedicated Servers.

Built on Intel® Software Guard Extensions (SGX) and AMD Infinity Guard, Advance Dedicated Servers deliver the performance and data protection capabilities required to host complex workloads, critical infrastructure and sensitive data. They also include specific network features, such as Link Aggregation, to reduce downtime and ensure availability. These capabilities made Advance Servers the perfect solution for hosting Flux’s blockchain technology, delivering high performance, whilst also protecting customer data and transactions from malicious intent and network disruption.

To host the Docker-based Flux Cloud, there was also a requirement for scalable servers capable of supporting containers and virtualisation. High-Grade Dedicated Servers ticked all the boxes, being built on powerful 2nd Generation AMD EPYCDual Processors, and offering advanced security features from AMD Infinity Guard, such as Secure Memory Encryption (SME) and Secure Encrypted Virtualisation (SEV). These capabilities provided the performance, scalability and capacity needed, whilst also protecting the data processed within virtualised environments.

Another major benefit for Flux was OVHcloud’s commitment to sustainability. Like all OVHcloud dedicated servers, the Advance and High-Grade ranges are built on water-cooling technology to reduce energy consumption and are assembled in-house for close monitoring of the supply chain and environmental impact. Flux also leveraged OVHcloud Eco Servers for certain projects, which are built on recycled hardware components to reduce waste.

The result

With support from OVHcloud, Flux was able to expand its network and continue delivering decentralised innovation for its community. The combined power of Advance Servers and High-Grade Servers provided the perfect platform for Flux, offering the performance, scalability and data protection capabilities required to run blockchain and containerised technologies. The eco-friendly build of OVHcloud’s servers also enabled Flux to stay true to its core mission of building and delivering sustainable blockchain solutions.

Going forward, Flux plans to re-sell OVHcloud Public Cloud services to its community, and the two companies will continue working together to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 infrastructure.
